What is an AGMARK Registration?

AGMARK or the Agricultural Mark represents the set of rules and regulations that have been set by the Indian National Government by the department of the Directorate of Marketing and Inspection which is an attached office of the Department of Agriculture, Co-operation and Farmers Welfare under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, which is an agency of the Government of India. The office of the AGMARK (Agricultural Mark) is located at Faridabad (Haryana) and is being legally enforced by the Agricultural Produce (Grading and Marking) Act of 1937.

The present description of the AGMARK standards covers the 222 varied commodities for the purpose of testing the quality, it includes huge varieties of pulses, Rice and other things into its list. The AGMARK certification is employed all over the India, through fully state-owned AGMARK laboratories which are located at all over the Indian Subcontinent which acts as the testing and certifying centres. Moreover, in addition to the Central AGMARK laboratory i.e. CAL, there are several Regional AGMARK Laboratories i.e. RALs which are located at the 11 (eleven) nodal cities, which are, following: (Mumbai, NewDelhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Kanpur, Kochi, Guntur, Amritsar, Jaipur, Rajkot, Bhopal) We must see that each of the regional laboratories specializes in the products of regional significance. For example, a lab in the Mumbai is equipped to testing sugarcane and cannot be used to test the rice or pulses because sugarcane is the major crop grown in the Mumbai and not the pulses or the rice.

AGMARK or the Agricultural Mark is the symbol of quality and authenticity. It represents a trust seal from the government that the concerned product is safe and does not contain any chemical product exceeding the permissible limit of the chemicals allowed in the product.

The AGMARK or the Agricultural Mark, is also important because consumers do not have the knowledge to check through all the ingredients and the products that are being sold in the market. Hence, AGMARK or the Agricultural Mark comes to the rescue of the consumers by enabling them to just search for the symbol and be assured of the quality of the product.

It is (AGMARK) certification mark employed on agricultural products in India, promising that they conform to a set of standards recognized by the Directorate of marketing and inspection, an agency of the Government of India. AGMARK is a combination of two words which are AG and MARK. AG means agriculture and MARK means certification. AGMARK covers agricultural produce which has been defined as to include entire products of agriculture or horticulture and all articles of drink or food partly manufactured from any such products, and fleeces and the skins of animals.

AGMARK Certification Process

For application of AGMARK certification, applicants are required to follow the prescribed procedure by the AGMARK authority.

First you need to prepare the documents required for the application filing in the AGMARK authority.
You then need to file the application at the regional AGMARK certification authority.
You then need to submit a hard copy of the application along with the documents.
After reviewing the application, an inspection team will visit the physical site for inspection.
On successful inspection, the AGMARK certification will be issued to the applicant.
AGMARK certification mark is issued within 30-40 days of the application submission.

Documents required for AGMark Certification

Applicants are required to file an application and submit a hard copy of the application along with the required documents for successfull approval of the application and issue of the AGMARK registration certificate.

Company registration documents (COI, AOA, MOA)
Site Plan and Fire Safety certificate from local authority
Machinery details such as quantity, capacity, power etc.
Trademark Registration certificate.
PAN card of a business or an individual.
Address Proof of the business premises such as Utility Bills.
Bank certificate for the deposits of company/ individual.

Agro-Products that require AGMARK certification

There are around 222 agricultural products including cereals, vegetable oils, fruit and vegetables which require AGMARK certification. The authority issues AGmark certification after inspection of the agricultural products in fully owned AGMARK laboratories.

The testing phase in the laboratories includes chemical analysis, microbiological analysis, pesticide residue and aflatoxin analysis. It is compulsory for Whole spice, Ground spices, Ghee, Butter, Honey, Mustard oil, Gram flour, Soybean seed, Bengal gram, Ginger, Non-edible oil, Animal casings, Meat and many other products.

This certification mark promises that all the agricultural goods meet the certain by the government. It is a government of India’s quality certification mark. AGMARK is not mandatory for all the events to use this mark on their goods.

Agmark Certification on Fruits and Vegetables:

Persons needing for of obtaining Agmark Certification on fruits and vegetables under Agmark for export should have valid Certificated of Authorization for grading of fruits and vegetables. Eatables contained in Fruits and Vegetables shall be applicable.

Certification of Product

The certification scheme is applied through eleven Regional Offices, 27 Sub Offices, 11 Regional Agmark Laboratories and Central Agmark Laboratory of the Directorate. 08 Laboratories Nagpur, Chennai, Mumbai, Kochi, Kolkata, Delhi, Jaipur and Kanpur have been accredited with the NABL as per the International Standard ISO.
Persons eager of sorting and certifying a notified agricultural goods under Agmark can apply the nearest field office of the DMI. The list of required documents and application form can be obtained from the nearest field office.

Total gross product in K.g. for last year.
Sample of products should also be submitted in small sachets.
Company’s or Firm’s Name.
Address of the company or firm Product’s Name for which the company wants AGMARK standardization.
If the contender is a company, then the memorandum of connotation.
Copy of test report which is duly legitimate, from independent AGMARK recognized laboratory.
